Artisan made lampwork beads & jewelry by Donna Conklin
What is Lampwork? Lampworking is a form of glasswork that uses a torch to melt and shape the glass. It is also known as flameworking or torchworking, as the modern practice no longer uses oil-fueled lamps. Although the art form has been practiced since ancient times, it flowered in Murano, Italy in the 1300s, and spread from there to the rest of Europe. In the 1850's lampwork incorporated into glass domed paperweights, primarily in France, became a popular art form, still collected today.
Early lampworking was done in the flame of an oil lamp, with the artist blowing air into the flame through a pipe. Most artists today use torches that burn either propane or natural gas for the fuel gas, with either air or pure oxygen as the oxidizer.
From Wikipedia | Natasha Focal Bead | | Site Updates & News ~5.09.08 Back from Phoenix and adding what didn't sell at the show(s) to the website. Newest uploads are listed first and sold items are now at the bottom for easier viewing. Keep checking back, I had LOTS more than I thought I did. So even though I sold a lot I brought home lots too :) ~4.08.08 A new blog post... and 3 weeks to Phoenix Bead Expo. The nerves are getting jumpy. I'm in a bead making frenzy. I hope you all like them! ~3.29.08 Beads shows are coming up quick, just 4 working weeks till Phoenix Bead Expo. I won't be listing any more beads on the website till after the show. The beads you see here will go with me to the show (at least the ones that don't sell at the L.A. Bead Society Bead Bazaar in Culver City on April 27). New blog posts are forthcoming... watch me panic :) ~2.18.2008 I am so loving this website service! I have so much control over everything and now I can actually sell my little glass treasures on the website! So much easier than playing e-mail tag. If you want a artists' website I highly recommend Artisans Accomplice. |
